Baobabooks launches its annual Earth Day Challenge: providing a platform for children and young people to share their opinions on issues that affect them.
We are excited to announce the launch of the Baobabooks 2025 Earth Day Challenge to inspire young writers and artists to engage in this year’s Earth Day theme ‘Our Power, Our Planet`.
With climate change accelerating and ecosystems increasingly under pressure, this year’s theme is focused on renewable energy and a call for transformative action to triple the amount of energy from sources such as solar, wind, and geothermal by 2030.
The Earth Day Challenge is an exciting opportunity for 9-15 year olds from all corners of the globe to come together and make a difference. We are inviting you to collaborate with us and take part in this initiative, aimed at empowering youth and inspiring #positivechange.
Until 21 May 2025 you can join the challenge and express ideas, dreams, concerns and solutions through your writing and art work. Young people are tomorrow’s #changemakers so let’s spark their #creativity today!
Climate change, pollution of the environment, and loss of biodiversity have created a planetary crisis. Every child is either exposed or at risk of exposure to at least one major climate and environmental hazard, shock or stress with one billion children living in high-risk countries.
“All countries need to adopt education systems, infrastructure and curricula to teach children about climate change, the environment as well as responsible and sustainable consumption and production,” noted Jeremy Hartley, Head of Communication and Public Affairs at Baobabooks. “In this way we can equip children and young people with the skills needed to build green economies and take up tomorrow’s green jobs.”
We need to recognize children as agents of change and provide a platform that allows them to elevate their views, opinions, and concerns. They must be involved in identifying solutions, and promoting environmentally sustainable lifestyles, setting an example in their communities.
Baobabooks is fortunate to partner with leading organizations around the world to increase engagement including: The Hindu and their leading Young World initiative, Patagonia, one of the world’s most ecologically aware and sustainable company, Nepal’s Alpine Learning Hub, Qatar Foundation WISE recognized Tiny Ivy, and the innovative School of Humanity.
The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development with its 17 Sustainable Development Goals was adopted by all United Nations members in 2015, created with the aim of “peace and prosperity for people and the planet”. They are an urgent call for action by all countries – developed and developing – in a global partnership. They recognize that ending poverty and other deprivations must go hand-in-hand with strategies that improve health and education, reduce inequality, and spur economic growth – while at the same time tackling climate change and working to preserve our oceans and forests.
